Welcome Broken Arrow Youth Baseball Coaches!
Broken Arrow Youth Baseball has adopted ASEP (American Sport Education Program) curriculum as part of the requirement for becoming a coach in Broken Arrow Youth Baseball programs. Coaches should have their recommended or required course completed prior to their first practice. Once a coach has completed an ASEP course, they may print/email their transcript record from ASEP’s National Coaches Registry as proof of completion.
Coaches working with athletes 10 years old and younger must complete the Coaching Youth Baseball Online Course unless completed within the previous 3 years. BAYB strongly encourages all other coaches complete this course at least once during their tenure as a coach within the BAYB organization.
Coaches working with athletes 11 years and older must complete either the Coaching Orientation Online Course or the Coaching Youth Baseball Online Course. BAYB strongly encourages these coaches to complete the Coaching Baseball Technical and Tactical Skills Course.
All coaches must have continuing education on a recurring annual basis. BAYB may host various trainings and clinics, however any of the online courses below will be acceptable means of continuing education. Click on any of the links below for course previews, additional information, and to purchase.
BAYB requires that all board members and at least one signed coach from each team hold current CPR/AED certification and strongly recommends that ALL coaches, umpires, concession workers, and parents become trained in CPR and learn how to use an AED machine. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, baseball leads all team sports in deaths of children between ages 5 and 14. It’s easy to get CPR/AED certified with ASEP’s new CPR/AED for Coaches program. Please note that there is a $10 retake fee associated with the online portion of this course. Those who fail the test (80% or better is considered passing) will be assessed a $10 fee to retake it.
Step 1 – Take the “Part A” CPR/AED for Coaches online course which shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours.
Step 2 – Attend the “Part B” 1-hour clinic administered by a certified CPR/AED instructor. Go to the BAYB website for a schedule of trainings to complete the certification process. The best part is that the Part B is FREE, courtesy of BAYB.
According to the Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine, softball and baseball lead to more injuries requiring emergency room visits in the U.S. than any other sport. Accordingly BAYB encourages all board members, coaches, umpires, concession workers and parents to complete first aid training. The Coaching Youth Baseball Online Course includes a section on first aid and the Sport First Aid Online Course is highly recommended.
