California Interscholastic Federation

Welcome California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) athletic directors and coaches! The American Sport Education Program (ASEP) is proud of our long-time affiliation with the CIF, and we look forward to training CIF coaches in the 2007-08 school year and beyond.

With the requirement that all interscholastic coaches in California be trained by December 31, 2008, ASEP is poised to assist the CIF in reaching this commendable goal. We congratulate the CIF on taking a strong stance for coaching education.

When you partner with ASEP, you’re tapping into our more than 25 years of experience in training coaches, as well as all the resources and support of a dedicated team:

Quality program—ASEP’s team of curriculum design specialists diligently construct course content and activities in accordance with the latest coaching theory, technique, and research. ASEP not only trains more than 25,000 high school coaches each year, but also hundreds of college student-coaches, who take our courses through some 200 institutions of higher learning throughout the country. With our curriculum upgrade in 2004, ASEP raised the bar on coaching education, and we will continue to do so in the future.

Outstanding service and support—ASEP works closely with the CIF to ensure a smooth-running operation for your organization. Our program services, order entry and fulfillment, inventory and shipping, technical support, and sales and marketing departments work in tandem to meet your every need. Our staff responds to thousands of phone calls and e-mails every month. Could you handle this on your own?

Course tracking and reporting—The ASEP National Coaches Registry makes it easy for you to look up coaches’ certifications at any time. We score the tests. We enter the scores. We track the certifications. ASEP does the work for you.

ASEP courses that meet the CIF requirements include Coaching Principles (which is bundled with the CIF state test) and Sport First Aid.

Coaching Principles
As has been the case for the past number of years, ASEP’s Coaching Principles course meets the CIF Coaches Education Program requirements. Coaching Principles provides the underpinnings of what it takes to be a successful coach before one even gets to the Xs and Os. Coaching Principles is the most comprehensive course available today designed to prepare scholastic coaches for the rigors of coaching high school sports. For a complete Coaching Principles course description, click here.

Coaching Principles Classroom—Just $59!
The base price of the Coaching Principles Classroom course is only $59. For that $59*, your coaches receive the Successful Coaching text, written by ASEP founder Rainer Martens Ph.D., the Coaching Principles Classroom Study Guide (containing more than 300 pages of course activities), the CIF state component, and the Coaching Principles test package (coaches have the option of taking the test paper-pencil or online).

When you consider the quality of the course content and instruction, coupled with the comprehensiveness of the course materials (the 500-plus page Successful Coaching text alone retails for $39.95) the value of Coaching Principles is unsurpassed in coaching education circles today. You simply won’t find a better course at a better value. After completing the course, coaches have the luxury of referring to these resources throughout the season and for years to come. Coaching education programs offered by other organizations leave coaches empty handed. Not ASEP.

To enroll in a Coaching Principles clinic, contact the CIF state office (see contact information below) for a schedule of upcoming clinics in your area. These clinics are taught through a network of more than 600 ASEP-trained instructors in California. Those who take the classroom course will receive the materials from the course instructor on site the day of the clinic.

Coaching Principles Online
You may be surprised to know that ASEP has been offering Coaching Principles as an online course for more than three years. Priced at $94*, coaches receive the Successful Coaching book, two CD-ROMs containing more than 60 minutes of video clips, and course access instructions. After you purchase your online course, the materials will be shipped to you within 24 hours.

While progressing through the course, coaches are prompted to read sections of the text, view video clips, and participate in interactive quizzes and activities. Coaches complete the 100-question test online, which is scored immediately, and can print a course completion certificate directly from the Web site. Coaches have access to the course even after they’ve completed it to review activities and to access the Coaches’ Clipboard, containing dozens of PDF forms, checklists, surveys, and inventories introduced in the course. Coaches can download and print these documents for up to a year.

CIF Component*
In addition to Coaching Principles, the CIF Coaches Education Program includes a California state test. This CIF-specific component is bundled with the Coaching Principles course, so you do not have to purchase it separately. The Coaching Principles course price (classroom and online) includes the CIF state test.

Sport First Aid and CPR/AED for Coaches
The CIF also requires coaches to complete a first aid course. ASEP’s Sport First Aid course meets the criteria and, just like Coaching Principles, it is offered as a classroom and an online course. Sport First Aid is different than general first aid courses offered through the local fire department in that it deals with situations that coaches are likely to face on the field, court, or mat. For a complete Sport First Aid course description, click here.

Sport First Aid Classroom
The base price of the Sport First Aid Classroom course is only $65. For that $65, your coaches receive the Sport First Aid text, the Sport First Aid Classroom Study Guide (containing more than 250 pages of course activities), and the Sport First Aid test package (coaches have the option of taking the test paper-pencil or online).

When you consider the quality of the course content and instruction, coupled with the comprehensiveness of the course materials (the 300-plus page Sport First Aid text alone retails for $39.95) the value of Sport First Aid is unsurpassed in coaching education circles today. You simply won’t find a better course at a better value. After completing the course, coaches have the luxury of referring to these resources throughout the season and for years to come.

To enroll in a Sport First Aid clinic, contact the CIF state office (see contact information below) for a schedule of upcoming clinics in your area. These clinics are taught through a network of ASEP-trained instructors in California. Those who take the classroom course will receive the materials from the course instructor on site the day of the clinic.

Sport First Aid Online
Sport First Aid Online was released at the same time ASEP introduced the online version of Coaching Principles, more than three years ago. Priced at $90, coaches receive the Sport First Aid book, two CD-ROMs containing more than 60 minutes of video clips, and course access instructions. After coaches purchase the online course, the materials are shipped within 24 hours.

While progressing through the course, coaches are prompted to read sections of the text, view video clips, and participate in interactive quizzes and activities. Coaches complete the 75-question test online, which is scored immediately, and can print a course completion certificate directly from the Web site. Coaches have access to the course even after they’ve completed it to review activities and to access the Coaches’ Clipboard, containing dozens of PDF forms, checklists, surveys, and inventories introduced in the course. Coaches can download and print these documents for up to a year.

To purchase the online version of Sport First Aid, click here or on the icon in the table at the bottom of the page. To get a taste of the online course experience, click here for a Sport First Aid online course preview.

CPR/AED for Coaches
ASEP will soon offer a new course, CPR/AED for Coaches, a blended course of both online and classroom instruction demonstrating proper CPR and AED technique. This course will be made available as an add-on to the Sport First Aid course or offered as a stand-alone course. Come back to this page in the future for addition information on CPR/AED for Coaches availability.

Thank you for choosing ASEP as your coaching education provider!
