CPR/AED for Coaches (part A)

This course is a self-paced online course designed to be taken by individual coaches.

Designed as a blended course, CPR/AED for Coaches contains two parts: online instruction (part A) followed by an in-person hands-on clinic (part B). If your goal is to earn CPR/AED certification, enroll in a part B clinic first, then return to this page to enroll in part A. Separate registration and payment is required for part B through an ASHI-certified instructor. Contact ASEP for a schedule of part B clinics in your area. You must complete part A before attending part B. Price for part A is $22.00. Instructor sets price for part B. Please note that both parts A and B must be completed in order for you to be CPR and AED certified. If you're not interested in the certification, you can take part A without attending a part B clinic, but completion of part A alone does not constitute course completion or certification.

You have your two-minute drill or last-second shot practiced to perfection for the game-winning score. Are you as prepared for the precious few moments that could spell life or death for one of your players?

 

Introducing CPR/AED for Coaches, a new course from the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) and the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI).

 

More and more schools and institutions are requiring CPR and AED certification for coaches, and the ASEP CPR/AED for Coaches course delivers that training. Designed as a blended course, CPR/AED for Coaches requires participants to complete roughly two hours of online instruction (part A) before attending a two-hour hands-on clinic (part B) to receive certification. This course and fee is for part A only. For part B, separate registration and payment is required through an ASHI-certified instructor. Please note that both parts A and B must be completed in order for you to be CPR and AED certified. Completion of part A alone does not constitute course completion or certification.

CPR/AED for Coaches shows participants how to provide basic life support, which includes the following:

 

  • Observing universal precautions
  • Identifying and providing first aid for heart attack and stroke victims
  • Following emergency action steps for adults, children, and infants:
    • Positioning injured and uninjured victims
    • Rescue breathing
    • Chest compressions
    • Use of an AED
    • Altering emergency action steps to accommodate special conditions
    • Aiding adults, children, and infants who are choking
  • Learning key psychological and legal aspects of providing basic life support

 

All part A course materials—including the online modules, reading material, supplemental forms and checklists, and test to assess students’ understanding of the course content—are provided conveniently within the course. You receive instant access to these e-tools and do not have to wait for materials to be shipped to you. Again, if you are seeking to earn CPR and AED certification, you are required to pass part A before attending the classroom training (part B).
