You may have heard the phrase "Sport builds character." And some say, "Sport reveals character." In some cases, sport seems to reveal characters! I've come across a few characters — not just kids, but parents and other coaches — in my tenure as a coach. Wrestling presents situations in which the character of people, coaches, and wrestlers alike is revealed by the nature of their responses. It also presents opportunities to help kids develop their character, to consider their words and actions, and to grow not just as wrestlers, but also as people.
