The following exercise will give you a practical look at the games approach and the traditional approach. You'll experience the differences in these two approaches and get a sense for how your coaching approach can affect your athletes.

You'll meet students from two local rival high schools, Gamesburg High and Tradition City High. In Gamesburg the coaches from all sports apply the games approach to their practices. At Tradition City the focus is on structure and technique. Consider the athlete's description of a team practice or game situation and see if you can determine which school the athlete plays for.
