The evaluation chart just shown is a type of evaluation that the athlete himself can use to rate his own skills following a game or a week of practice. The coach can complete an evaluation as well, and the two can then meet and compare the results. The subsequent discussion can provide both the player and the coach with a direction for upcoming practices and drills. By repeating this process later in the season, the athlete can look for improvement in the areas that needed work.

Remember that every athlete wants to know that the coach cares about him as a person on and off the field. Athletes play the hardest for a coach who cares. In turn, their skills and performance will improve.
