Collection of Personal Information

The American Sport Education Program (ASEP), a division of Human Kinetics Publishers, Inc., collects information about individuals when said individuals provide such information on a voluntary basis. For example, personal information may be gathered from the ordering process, catalog requests, or e-mails.

Sales and marketing use

Personal information will not be used for internal marketing and sales purposes without the approval of the user at the time of collection. Similarly, this information will not be sold or otherwise transferred to unaffiliated third parties without the approval of the user at the time of collection. When the information is collected, the user will have the opportunity to indicate whether he or she would like to "opt out" of receiving promotional or marketing information about other products, services, and offerings from ASEP, Human Kinetics, and any third parties.

National Coaches Registry and National Officials Registry use:

Personal information gathered from those taking a classroom or online course through ASEP or one of our partner organizations will not be listed in the National Coaches Registry or National Officials Registry without the approval of the user at the time of collection. Information contained in the registries will not be sold or otherwise transferred to unaffiliated third parties.

Customer service and technical support use:

ASEP and Human Kinetics reserve the right to contact a user regarding product orders and other matters relevant to the underlying service or the information collected. Information or files e-mailed to software technical support will not be used for internal marketing and sales purposes or be sold or otherwise transferred to unaffiliated third parties.

Statistical Analysis of Information

ASEP and Human Kinetics reserve the right to perform statistical analyses of user behavior and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas of the site and to inform advertisers of such information as well as the number of users that have been exposed to or clicked on their advertising banners. ASEP and Human Kinetics will provide only aggregated data from these analyses to third parties.

Notice About Chat Room or Bulletin Board Use

Users should be aware that when they voluntarily disclose personally identifiable information (e.g., user name, e-mail address) on bulletin boards or in chat areas that may be housed on the ASEP site, that information, along with any substantive information disclosed in the user's communication, can be collected, correlated, and used by third parties and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or third parties. Such activities are beyond the control of ASEP and Human Kinetics.

Use of Cookies

Users also should be aware that nonpersonal information and data may be automatically collected through the standard operation of ASEP and Human Kinetics' Internet servers or through the use of "cookies." Cookies are small text files a Web site can use to recognize repeat users, facilitate the users' ongoing access to and use of the site, and allow a site to track usage behavior and compile aggregate data that will allow content improvements and targeted advertising. Cookies are not programs that come onto a user's system and damage files. Generally, cookies work by assigning a unique number to the user that has no meaning outside the assigning site. If a user does not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows the user to deny or accept the cookie feature; however, users should note that cookies may be necessary to provide the user with certain features available on the ASEP and Human Kinetics sites.

Opting Out and Updating or Removing Your Information

On request, ASEP and Human Kinetics will allow any user to opt out of further promotional contacts, the National Coaches Registry, and/or National Officials Registry at any time. Users may remove their personal information from the National Coaches Registry or National Officials Registry through our online process or by contacting ASEP at 800-747-5698 or 217-351-5076, or asep@hkusa.com.
