The goal of instructor recertification is to have instructors qualified to teach the new courses beginning in May 2004. Recertification will require instructors to complete three steps:
To achieve step 1, instructors may purchase the Coaching Principles and/or Sport First Aid Online Recertification course or the Coaching Principles and/or Sport First Aid Recertification Text/Test package. With the online recertification course, instructors take the entire Coaching Principles and/or Sport First Aid course(s) and test(s) online. With the text/test option, instructors read the course text(s) and take the test(s) online. Both formats are acceptable.
Step 2 requires instructors to complete the course test(s) and achieve a score of 90 percent or better. Because tests will be submitted online, instructors will know immediately whether they have passed the test.
Step 3 involves taking the instructor recertification course, which details the differences between the old and new curriculum and familiarizes instructors with the new format for delivering the course. Instructors work their way through the Bronze Level Instructor Self-Study Guide, designed to get instructors comfortable with the new course materials, which include the instructor guide, the classroom study guide, the test package, and the course DVD. (This new format replaces the old VHS tapes and includes 100 minutes of all-new video.) Also covered in the self-study are instructions on new course reporting and testing procedures. When these are completed, instructors will simply verify with ASEP via e-mail that they've completed the recertification course.
We're excited about the upgrade in curriculum, course texts, DVD format, and most important, the quality of education each coach will receive as a result of participating in these courses.
