Thank you for your interest in becoming an ASEP-certified instructor of Coaching Principles Classroom and/or Sport First Aid Classroom courses. Whether you're an administrator at a state high school association, an athletic director at a high school or school district, a college or university professor, or an administrator at a national governing body of sport or other sport organization, being an ASEP-certified instructor will enable you to train your coaches whenever you need to.
If you're a high school or district athletic director interested in being an instructor, we ask that you contact your state high school association before beginning the certification process.
To become a certified instructor, you will need to complete four steps:
To achieve step 1, you have the option of taking the Coaching Principles Online and/or Sport First Aid Online course(s) or attending a Coaching Principles Classroom and/or Sport First Aid Classroom course(s) in your area.
Step 2 requires you to complete the course test(s) and achieve a score of 90 percent or better.
Step 3 involves taking the new instructor course, which familiarizes instructors with the format for delivering the course. Instructors work their way through the Bronze Level Instructor Self-Study Guide, designed to get instructors comfortable with the course materials, which include the instructor guide, the classroom study guide, the test package, and the course DVD. (The DVD includes 100 minutes of all-new video.) Also covered in the self-study are instructions on course reporting and testing procedures. When these are completed, instructors will simply verify with ASEP via e-mail that they've completed the new instructor course.
Step 4 involves attending a practicum designed to test and hone your presentation skills. At this "practice teaching" you'll present a unit from the course in front of the class and receive feedback from fellow practicum participants and a national faculty member.
