The LA84 Foundation and the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) in conjunction with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announce the release of a new online training course for high school coaches in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD): LA84 Foundation’s CIF Coaching Orientation. The course is accepted by the California Interscholastic Federation and the California Department of Education as meeting California coaching education requirements.

To help defray the cost of the course, funding provided by the LA84 Foundation is underwriting a large portion of the course price for the first 250 coaches who purchase it. While the course retails for $38 each, LA84 Foundation is covering $20, lowering the price to $18 for the first 250 coaches.

“We are delighted to partner with ASEP, a leader in online sports education,” said Wayne Wilson, LA84 Foundation Vice President of Education Services. “With the online course, the LA84 Foundation and LA City Section can reach high school coaches who need certification but may not be able to attend traditional in-person coaching clinics.”

“I could not be more excited that the LA City Section is partnering with the LA84 Foundation and the American Sport Education Program to develop an online coaching education program for LA City Section coaches,” says Barbara Fiege, LAUSD Director, Interscholastic Athletics, and CIF Los Angeles City Section Commissioner. “The partnership with LA84 Foundation and ASEP will allow us to equip coaches with the knowledge and resources they need to provide the best possible high school sports experience for our student-athletes.”

“We are excited to partner with LA84 to deliver the CIF Coaching Orientation course to first-time coaches in the LA City Section,” said ASEP Executive Director Jim Schmutz. “Built on ASEP’s ‘Athletes first, winning second’ philosophy, this online course provides high-quality content that prepares coaches to excel through a series practical interactive exercises focused on the core principals of coaching.”

The LA84 Foundation’s CIF Coaching Orientation course brings together material from the ASEP Coaching Principles, Sport First Aid, and Coaching Technical and Tactical Skills courses, and includes an entire unit covering CIF-specific information on policies, procedures, rules, and reporting.
