A new year is upon us. I hope you had an enjoyable and restful holiday vacation and are back in saddle and looking forward to a great 2012! I am excited; we have a lot on our agenda that I believe will set the tone for a great deal of advancement in the professional development of coaches.

Before I begin, let me put your mind to rest. ASEP will provide all active ASEP instructors with the Fourth Edition instructor resources at no cost to you. In addition, there will not be any recertification or instructor training required to teach the Fourth Edition. ASEP will develop and record a Coaching Principles, Fourth Edition webinar that you can view at your leisure to guide you through the course revisions and introduce you to the features that have been added to the course to increase instructor flexibility.

Let’s start by looking at the new course resources and the resources you will receive as a Coaching Principles instructor. With the release of the Fourth Edition, we are unveiling a new option for coaches: The Successful Coaching text, which accompanies both the classroom and online courses, will be provided alternatively as an e-book. This option will allow ASEP to stay in step with current electronic technology while allowing us to maintain our current course prices. We are very sensitive of the economic strain our school districts are experiencing, and we have not increased our course prices since 2004. Below is the new price structure. You will see that we are maintaining our current prices with e-book versions of selected courses and increasing the print versions $10.00 to cover growing publication costs.

You may notice a couple of new products that are included with the Fourth Edition. The Coaching Principles Workbook is replacing the first half of the current Coaching Principles Classroom Self Study Guide. The Coaching Principles Workbook is the coach’s guide for completing the course. For each unit, it includes:

- the unit’s purpose, learning objectives, and overview,
- a summary of unit introductions and comments,
- activity worksheets,
- a list of test preparation activities that coaches should complete on their own to prepare for the course exam, and
- plenty of room to take notes that will make this a resource to keep and to refer to for years to come.

The workbook also includes a list of coaching successfully activities. These are activities coaches can complete after they complete the course that should help them become more successful coaches. Another new product included in the Fourth Edition for coaches is access to the Coaching Principles Online Study Guide. This online guide replaces the second half of the current Coaching Principles Classroom Self-Study Guide which traditionally has been self-study units that coaches could complete on their own to prepare for the course exam. The Coaching Principles Online Study Guide will be a valuable resource for coaches as they prepare for the course exam and as a reference long after the course is completed. The new resources for instructors will be provided in the same format, a three-ring Coaching Principles Instructor Guide binder and the Coaching Principles Classroom DVD. We will also provide you with a Coaching Principles Classroom Course packet which you can use as a visual aid as you teach the course.

In next month’s newsletter I will give you an overview of the new Instructor Guide including a look at the new course agenda which has been consolidated to seven units to give you the flexibility you need to make a great course even better! Now you will have even more time to customize the classroom schedule to emphasize specific topics from the course and include local and state policies and procedures that you want to cover with your new coaches.

Until next time, here is wishing you a prosperous and successful new year.

God bless,

Coach Reeder
