American Sport Education Program (ASEP) courses have recently been accepted by the Arizona Interscholastic Association and Colorado High School Activities Association as meeting coaching education requirements.

In Arizona, AIA coaching education requirements state that all head and assistant coaches, whether paid or volunteer, must have a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or Arizona Coaching Certificate, or they must complete an approved coaching education program within 45 days from the date of hire. As an approved provider, ASEP courses are accepted by the AIA as meeting coaching education requirements. Coaches must complete all three courses to meet the certification requirements. ASEP online courses can be purchased through the ASEP website.

In Colorado, the CHSAA has approved the ASEP courses Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid as meeting two of the requirements for obtaining a Permanent Coaching Certificate. Online versions of the courses can be purchased through the ASEP website.

As an alternative to online courses, Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid are offered as classroom courses led by certified ASEP instructors. Being a certified instructor gives athletic directors in Arizona and Colorado the opportunity to teach the courses to coaches in a face-to-face format, providing interaction that online courses cannot replicate. ASEP is looking for high school athletic directors in Arizona and Colorado to become ASEP instructors.
