A message to coaches and students:

Thank you for your interest in the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) course Coaching Principles. We’re glad you looked to ASEP for your coaching education needs. The new fourth edition of Coaching Principles and its companion text Successful Coaching are now available for purchase.

The updated and enhanced Coaching Principles course includes new information on bullying and hazing; social media; nutritional guidelines regarding creatine, energy drinks, caffeine, and hydration; and methamphetamine and prescription drug abuse and drug testing.

All-new video clips—totaling more than 90 minutes—depict real-life scenarios coaches deal with on a daily basis. The video also features roundtable discussions with experienced master coaches who provide practical guidelines and sage advice for new coaches on a variety of topics.

Another new feature of the course is the Coaching Successfully Manual. This downloadable, editable document can serve as your foundation for creating a comprehensive guide for the administration of your sport program. In addition to housing documents found within the course, the manual contains other resources including real-life examples of team policies, mission statements, coaching philosophies, and booster-club bylaws that you can use as is or modify to your program’s needs. This dynamic document will be a helpful resource to you, your assistant coaches, and your support staff as your program evolves over the years.

Also new with this edition of the course is the option for you to receive the Successful Coaching textbook as a print book or an e-book. You’ll save by purchasing the e-book version of the course.

We’re excited about the updates and are confident that the new Coaching Principles course will provide you with the most comprehensive, interactive, and engaging learning experience available for coaches today.

A message to ASEP Coaching Principles instructors:

The course materials include the Successful Coaching, Fourth Edition text as well as updated Coaching Principles Instructor Guide, Coaching Principles Workbook (previously the Coaching Principles Classroom Study Guide), Coaching Principles Classroom DVD, and test packet.

You can get a glimpse of the new instructor materials right now. We’re making electronic versions available to you through the list of frequently asked questions found in the For Instructors area of the ASEP website. We encourage you to review these materials to become familiar with new course content and structure. Coaching Principles has long been the coaching education standard for high school coaches, and we’ve taken an already excellent course and made it even better. We’re sure you’ll agree.

While there have been changes made to the content and structure, you won’t need any additional training to teach the new course. However, we do recommend you participate in or view a recorded webinar to become more familiar with the new materials and updates. A live webinar will be held June 19; click here to register for this live event. Click to view a recorded webinar.
