ASEP releases second edition courses for Pop Warner Football and Cheer

Author: ASEP Marketing

Pop Warner has established a leadership role in youth football and cheer by requiring all head coaches to pass a coaching education course. Our goal with the program is to help foster a safe learning environment for our young participants and further the educational mission of Pop Warner.

The training is delivered conveniently through the online courses Coaching Youth Football: The Pop Warner Way and Coaching Youth Cheer and Dance: The Pop Warner Way. New second editions of the courses are now available. Courses are purchased and delivered through the Pop Warner Little Scholars Coaches Education Center website found at

The updated second edition of the football course includes 35 video clips depicting proper technique for fundamental skills used for offense (blocking, rushing, passing), defense (tackling, pass rushing, covering), and special teams (placekicks, kickoffs, punts, kick coverages). Audio clips; interactive activities; downloadable drills, forms, and checklists; and end-of-unit quizzes provide for even more interactivity and engagement for coaches.

The updated cheer and dance course incorporates new content that enhances the numerous downloadable documents and photos making the course even more practical and relevant for coaches.

Each course concludes with an online 30-question test. Coaches who pass can print a certificate of course completion directly from the website.

The deadline as stipulated by PWLS for completing the course is August 1. All new head coaches are required to take the course. As PWLS requires recertification every three years, coaches who earned certification in 2009 are required to take the course to recertify for this season.

PWLS coaches can purchase courses individually through the website. Bulk purchases are also available; purchases of 25 or more courses qualify for discounts. Contact Mark Allemand, ASEP marketing manager, at 800-747-5698, ext. 2212 or for more information on purchasing courses in bulk and distributing courses to coaches.

PWLS online coaching education courses and the website are developed and delivered by the American Sport Education Program (ASEP), the leading coaching education provider since 1981. ASEP works with national, state, and local sport organizations to develop educational programs for coaches, officials, administrators, and parents. These programs incorporate ASEP’s philosophy of “Athletes first, winning second.”
