Another summer has come and gone, and a new school year is upon us. The vast majority of our classroom instructors play a key role in the management of high school athletics. As you prepare for the 2017-18 school year, I’m guessing professional development of your coaching staff is on your to-do list.

As a Human Kinetics Coach Education instructor, you don’t need to be sold on the curriculum we’ve developed—and that you deliver—to meet the coaching education requirements in your state. I think you’ll agree it is the most comprehensive and effective professional development program available for your coaches.

With that said, I realize you have other choices when it comes to certifying your coaches. Other courses may be less expensive, take less time for coaches to complete, and be less rigorous. A rubber-stamp certification we’re not.

You can believe me when I say that I understand your dilemma. Back in the day, I was an athletic director, and I worked with a superintendent, a school board, a principal, and a business manager, all deeply concerned with the budget for our school district, the largest district Southern Indiana. Often those overseeing the budget made decisions strictly based on dollars and cents and not on what was in the best interests of our students. I understood what they did and why they did it, but that didn’t mean it was right.

I learned a couple of very valuable lessons during my tenure as an AD. First, anything that would benefit the sport experience of my student-athletes was worth fighting for. Second, the passion I brought to the negotiating table changed minds. To convince a budget-minded administrator that classroom instruction is worth the extra effort and investment to prepare coaches for the rigors of today’s sport culture means you need to have a passion for it. After all, your student-athletes are the ones who ultimately benefit from the training. By championing the cause, you will win the support of your administrators and find a way to get it done—the right way!

Our courses are designed to prepare coaches to teach the fundamentals of their sport and, more importantly, to instill character, confidence, self-worth, purpose, and value in their student-athletes. As a certified instructor, you have the ability and power to bring this essential training to your coaches. If you haven’t already, let me help you get started.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Jerry
